Located less than 75 miles from one of the premier Star Parties in the country, the Nebraska Star Party, Sherman County is well situated for some great viewing. Located on the edge of the Sandhills, one of the largest dark areas on a light pollution map of the U.S. More Stars are visible here than in many other parts of the country. The quality of the "seeing" here is good to excellent, particularly in the fall, winter and spring when the humidity is lower. Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area provides many sites with unobstructed views for 360°.
